The Smart And Secure Way...

About BP Smartcard

We like to refer to the BP Smartcard as “the smart and secure way of purchasing BP fuels and lubricants”. In 2000, BP Malawi decided to move from it’s paper based fuel voucher system with a pre-paid electronic fuel system. This system has a closed smart card based facility that is restricted for use at BP’s 45 fuel stations through out the country. In addition, the smartcard based prepaid fuel system provides meaningful fleet management information for both BP and its corporate clients. The entire system is backed by Malswitch, who are leaders in smartcard technological excellence in Malawi.

How it works

The system can be used by both individuals and organizations with a fleet of vehicles. For organizations with a fleet of vehicles, BP issues a Point of Sale device (POS) to the organization and an agent card (this card acts as a master card). Once the organization makes a payment to BP, the organization’s account (IBA) is credited with the amount which is then downloaded onto the agent card by the organization using the POS. The funds are further distributed to the various BP Smartcards issued to the organisation's drivers accordingly.

Benefits

  • Access to reports 24/7
  • Availability of audit trails for transparency and accountability
  • Acts as a management control system for monitoring of fuel expenditure
  • Each card is secured by a pin code
  • Safer and more convenient than carrying cash or paper fuel vouchers
  • Value still intact irrespective of loss of card
